St. Helena Island is a British Overseas Territory some 1200 miles west of Angola and 1800 miles east of Brazil in the South Atlantic Ocean. It has no airfield, so visits are only by the British Royal Mail Ship the RMS St. Helena.

That'll be us in cabin B36, sailing from the Namibian port of Walvis Bay to St. Helena and calling later at Ascension Island, some 600 miles to the north of St. Helena.
We'll start the new year in Walvis Bay, with a couple of days there before we board the RMS St. Helena. Walvis Bay, Swakopmund to its north and Sandwich Harbour to the south, are touted as prime areas fo bird photography. We'll give it a try.
