The capital city of the country in this week's quiz, shown in the picture, is named after a knight who defended the country from an Ottoman invasion in 1565. Remarkably, the city proper has a population of only 6315.

The city is Valetta, named after Jean Parisot de Valette, a Knight of St. John, who commanded the resistance against the Ottomans at the Great Siege of Malta in 1565.

And so the answer is ..................................... this is Valetta, capital of the Mediterranean island of Malta.
