Child sex attacker escapes from prison by helicopter.
This story had it all - crime, violence, intrigue, and it riveted the little Franch resort island of Reunion for ten days before it all came to an end earlier today.
As Agence France Presse told the story on 27 April, "A cult leader jailed for sex attacks on children escaped in a helicopter from a prison.... The helicopter landed on waste ground a short distance from the jail and the gang escaped in a van that had been waiting for them.... Earlier, the hijackers had boarded the chopper pretending to be tourists, before seizing control and directing the pilots to Domenjod prison, where it landed in the exercise yard and took on the escapees."
Finally, today, in a story translated from the French, "Verbard Juliano and his accomplices were arrested in a block of
Burgundy Street in the neighborhood of Moufia in Saint-Denis, Wednesday
evening around 19 hours. Les hommes viennent d’être transférés à la caserne Vérine. The men have now been transferred to the barracks jacks."
After the spectacular escape the Verbard Juliano gang eluded les gendarmes for ten days on an utterly isolated speck of land 200 kilometers southwest of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. The entire Reunion island is smaller than Antwerp Belgium.
