When I was younger, the book The Worst Journey in the World, the story of an ill-fated expedition to the South Pole almost a hundred years ago, made a big impression. Now comes a modern day equivalent, as told in the BBC story:

In the words of the modern day expedition leader expedition leader Pen Hadow,
"We've learned a lot about what's possible and what's not possible."
