According to a post back in March on the blog Knife Tricks, "there are no direct flights from anywhere in South America to anywhere in Asia." Sounds odd. Whole continents, not one flight?
They point out that Malaysian has a flight from Buenos Aires, Argentina, to Cape Town, to Johannesburg, to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Sort of a long way around, huh? There's an Aeromexico flight direct to Tokyo from Tijuana, Mexico - a Latin American country, but not South America.
There's a little action around the edges. If you count Australia as part of Asia, LAN Chile flies Santiago to Auckland to Sydney. But now comes the first non-stop - last week Qantas began three-times-a-week 747 service between Sydney and Buenos Aires.
