The Olympics has brought a $40 billion spending spree in Beijing, including remarkable new signature buildings like the new airport terminal three, the new National Stadium, or Bird's Nest, the Water Cube, and from way over here in the U.S., for me, the most compelling looks like the new CCTV headquarters.
At 49 stories, it has almost as much floor space as the Empire State Building and the yet-to-come Freedom Tower on Ground Zero combined. It's almost five times as tall as the Arc de Triomphe.
Compared to the low-rise, monumental Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City, it has to be a brave new world indeed in Beijing. We haven't been there since 2002. It's time for another trip, the sooner the better, for a photo tour of what's new.
